What age group is my little athlete?

Do we need a uniform?
Our uniform consists of a red and black club singlet or crop top, and black shorts. Uniform is optional at regular club competition.

But athletes must wear their supplied registration patch, appropriate footwear (spikes may be worn in accordance with LAVic rules) and sun protection, including a hat and sunscreen, each competition night.

A uniform and patch must be worn at open days, regionals and states.

How much does it cost to join?
The registration fee for the 2022/23 season is $99 per athlete. This fee is comprised of two parts:
  1. an LAVic fee that covers insurance and the running of LAVic which is $89
  2. SHLAC fee for the running of the Swan Hill Little Athletics Centre which is $10.
We aim to keep the centre fee as low as we can to ensure little athletics is a sport open to children from all backgrounds.

Where and when is Little Athletics held?
Our Summer Track and Field competitions are held on Friday nights in Terms 4 and 1. Competition starts at 5pm, and is usually complete by 6.30pm.

In winter, our cross country events are held at various locations around Swan Hill, at 10am on Sunday mornings. Dates and locations are determined at the start of each cross country season.

As a parent, do I have to help out each week?
Not every week, but your help will be needed at times throughout the season.

Little Athletics – no matter where it is run or how big or small a centre is - simply can’t function without lots of hands to help. Unlike other sports, athletics competitions need many helpers to ensure events run, and run smoothly.

All parents and carers will be rostered on at some stage during the Track and Field Season to assist with simple things like measuring, recording and raking sand in the jumping pit. We can work around other commitments if they conflict with Little Aths.

It might be daunting to start with, but experienced family members and committee can help. And it can be lots of fun too!
